The Ciné-club de Caen offers a complete catalogue of the 400 best film directors and the detailed analysis of almost 1 000 films.

These analyses take as a starting point the writings by critics and essayists as various as Jean Douchet, Alain Bergala, Jacques Lourcelles, or Gilles Deleuze. Their purpose is to find out the effects of the direction which reveal the director's artistic main motivation. The latter is illustrated in a key scene of the film which we try to spot.

Each week we propose the analyses of a film selection programmed in the two avant-garde cinemas situated in the city of Caen or on the free TV French channels.

The film club, which has been existing since January 2001 thanks to a group of ten film enthousiasts, is an activity of the Association of the personnel of INSEE Basse- Normandy.
